Energy supplier fat

Description and function

Fat is an important energy source for humans and has 37.7 kJ (9 kcal) per gram. It is more than twice as high in energy as proteins and carbohydrates. Besides its function as an energy source and energy storage fats are an important part of cell membranes. Fat is a flavor carrier and essential for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.

Fat in your diet

For a balanced diet it is recommended not to consume more than 25-30% of total daily energy in the form of fat. That's about 65 grams of fat in a daily requirement of 2000 calories. The recommended daily intake is often exceeded by people in industrialized countries.

Labeling: Contains a lot of fat

Fddb shows for some products the label "Contains a lot of fat". These products contain more than 20 g fat per 100 g of (food) or more than 10 g fat per 100 ml of (beverage).
