Low-Fat Diets
Diet in which the percentage of fat is reduced.
Description
With low-fat diets, the percentage of fats in nutrition is reduced. As in industrial countries often too much fat is eaten, adequate restriction of dietary fat makes good sense. Some studies show that a low-fat diet can help to lower the cholesterol and insulin levels and reduce the high blood pressure.
Criticism
Many fatty acids are essential for the body and important for maintaining the body functions. Dietary fats are also important for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Therefore, the fat intake should not be reduced too much. Another point of criticism are the numerous low-fat products in which the fat is saved but often sugar and other unhealthy substances are added.
